Tradition since 1933
Meopta Prerov has its roots in 1933 when the Optikotechna company was established in Prerov.

Initially, Optikotechna produced lenses and condensers, but quickly expanded its product line to include magnifiers, composite lenses, individual optics, binoculars, viewfinders, slide projectors and, of course, the well-known range of Flexaret cameras.

By 1936, Optikotechna established new facilities to meet the rapid expansion of its operation necessary to meet the growing demand for its products. During World War I, Optikotechna was forced to hand over control of its production to the German army. This change effectively halted the production of all non-military products.

After the war, the new company was renamed Meopta. Several new and exciting products were designed and developed that helped quickly establish an excellent reputation for the new Meopta brand in global markets.

In 1991, Meopta completed its first step towards privatization when it was established as a public limited company. The company was formed by a single act in accordance with the foundation plan of the state-owned company Meopta Prerov, s.p. On March 21, 1991, Meopta was registered in the business registry in the Ostrava District Court.

Meopta currently occupies a 135,000 m2 site. These manufacturing areas that include cutting edge environments, high quality, air conditioning and dust free. The Meopta team (2400 employees) that exists today is ready to use its extensive research, design, development and production experience to provide superior service at many different levels, from the raw concept to the finished products.
